Bash On Pop /International Pop Overthrow

“This album will bring you more than temporary happiness because it’s filled with the kind of radio-friendly tunes we got to know when radio was GOOD!”

Richie Mayer’s new album effortlessly mixes influences like the Beatles, Beach Boys, 10cc, ELO….I could go on - there’s not a weak track anywhere on the LP. Spend some time with this record; your happiness will not be temporary.”

“To labor a couple of sports metaphors, Richie Mayer swings for the fences on The Inn of Temporary Happiness, and he hits it outta the park. An ambitious record that still feels warm, friendly and – most of all – real and sincere, it’s a strong contender for my Best Album of the Year.”

The Inn of Temporary Happiness lives up to its name. Given one of my sweet spots is Beatles/XTC/Jellfish power pop married to power chords, this walks the same flower-girded path with panache. This is like attending the 25th anniversary of the Summer of Love on Haight Street and seeing Todd Rundgren in a crushed velvet suit, giving a very convincing impression of somebody smashed on acid. It’s a luxe buffet.”

This Is Your Day sold me on the whole album. Hall of Blame is as good of a song as its title. You Don’t Get Me High Anymore is fantastic. Seventeen songs ought to be enough but Don’t Say Goodbye left me wanting more. Thanks for music that makes my life better.”

Other Side

Excellent new record from Richie Mayer whom some of you may remember from Loose Lips. If you dig late Beatles / White album / early Paul McCartney /10cc / Queen / Beach Boys / Nick Lowe / even a touch of Burt Bacharach, then you’ll likely enjoy these songs as I do.”

"Power pop is a big tent and Richie Mayer visits all the tables in this expansive set. "You Don't Get Me High Anymore" starts like a Stones song but breaks for daylight in the bridge & chorus. "Love Will Find A Way" will remind everyone of "She's Leaving Home" for about four bars, and then it too, heads into the sun. Warmth Of The Sun is a fever dream of a song with hints of Burt Bacharach, and it's own bittersweet melody that is both mysterious and alluring. "She Is Why" is reminiscent of the Dukes Of the Stratosphere in it's seamless blend of Beatlesque and Beach Boys."

"Throughout, Mayer remains his own man and most of these songs really hit the bullseye."

Richie Mayer / The Inn of Temporary Happiness "The singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist’s flair shows with The Beach Boys and Jellyfish inspired “She Is Why” and the punchy Todd Rundgren influenced “You Don’t Get Me High Anymore. ”Sunshine Blues” is simply a great pop song featuring radio-friendly assets by the pound. “Sometimes I Feel Like I’m One Kiss Away” plugs in as an epic performance, burning with power, heated emotions and cracking riffs. With “The Inn of Temporary Happiness”, Richie Mayer has crafted an album where not a single moment is wasted."
